Studio Time: 
As a class, let's do a Soft Critique. This Soft Critique will help everyone get their head back into the game since we haven't had class for over 1.5 weeks. Take advantage of this critique to receive feedback from me and the class one last time before the Final Deadline.

Reminder:  
*11/15 Viewing Assignment -- Make your initial blog post before 11/20 class. Respond to at least two of your classmates during or after studio time on 11/20. (Since we will be at Centrix during studio time, it's okay to provide peer responses after studio time on 11/20.)

 
Wednesday 11/20, Studio Time:

Please make sure you have signed up to ride with either Morgan, Jonathan, or myself.

Let's plan on leaving at 12:00 p.m. (Centrix is 7.8 mi // 14 min. away from KCAI) 
We are scheduled to be at Centrix from 12:30 – 2:00.

I will try to be at studio around 11:00, in case there are any questions on the packaging project. (I don't want you all to feel delayed since we will be at the Centrix most of our studio time.)

2. Desk Crits – Discussion on Thumbnail Sketches and how you are proceeding forward. Also, Review of possible Color, Type, Pattern, and Material Studies. Remember this is all "Work in Progress" it might be a possibility that during Phase 4 you might need to rethink a different material, etc.

Homework: Work on Defining 2-3 Concepts
*Make sure your latest Design Brief is posted, as a reflection of insights/feedback received during class on Friday, 10/25.

Studio Time: 1. Brainstorming and development of thumbnail sketches. Exemplify numerous sketch exploration. I'm not providing a particular number this time, but it needs to be plentiful. :) 2. Begin development of color, pattern, type, and material studies.

Studio Time: Project 2 Introduction, I will share past student examples and some of my professional projects.

Store Visit: Nature's Own at 1 p.m.
Take multiple images of shelves that product sits on; perspective view and front view
Use for Research: 1st store visit – take images of shelves

Homework: Research, Gather Potential Product/Packaging Piece to Use for Project. 
*Consider how to frame the redesign aspect:
– What are the challenges in which the product & packaging must address? ...change of mode?
– Who are we communicating to? ...change of audience?
– What does the brand stand for?
– What is the Key Response we want from the product & package design?
– Any additional information that might affect the creative direction?
...shift in market (upmarket vs downmarket)

Wednesday 09/18
Final Presentation -- Project 1A, Folly Poster
Please have final poster design up in the hallway and ready to present. Gale Tallis and guests will arrive at noon. Please place your poster next to the others that have the same artist. I plan to be on campus by 11 a.m. to help out as needed.

Printing: (It's your choice, but consistency is nice) 
[A] If you have the time and prefer to do 11x17 prints to nicely puzzle the final comp together, feel free to. 
-or-  
[B] If you are limited on time and want to utilize the print shop, this works too.

Moving forward with the Folly Poster, if your poster is selected please refer back to the syllabus for Project 1. You will need to manipulate/mold your design for the front panel design that is 5"W x 8"H.

If you want me to review or help you with your poster design prior to Wednesday's presentation, please email me a pdf, png or jpeg version of it. 

**Please post your final comp to your blog and to your facebook page. (you do not need to respond to others' blogs for the poster design)

Studio Time: I will provide past student examples again and will meet/talk/discuss with you on how to carry your "brand/design" from your poster to your motion graphic project.

Selected Folly Poster Designs: We need to provide a jpeg or png file to Gale. I will review each file (with the student) to make sure everything is set up correctly. I will deliver the files to Gale.
Also, the front panel design should be completed on Friday.

For Wednesday, 09/11

We are doing a W.I.P CRIT
Please come prepared and ready to pin up the concept you are moving forward with.
Size of Print: 8.5x11 or 11x17

The W.I.P Composition Must Have:
1. The final poster size is 34"W x 50"H, so make sure your composition is set up accordingly to maintain the 
    proportional size of the print size you choose; 8.5x11 or 11x17.

2. Please have the artist's name and performance date on the comp.

3. Please place the footer on the comp so you understand its relationship with your design.


I look forward to seeing the development of your design on Wednesday.

Side Note 

Type Studies: I'd like to see at least 3-4 typefaces studied within your design process along with the type’s name noted. Be sure you know the history of the type before employing it.


Color Studies: Please include either PMS, CMYK, RGB, or the HEX # when you generate color studies.

Wednesday, September 11(class)

Bring 11x17 print (or 8.5x11 print) of your 1 modified/tweaked concept to class. Apply your color and type to your composition. The composition does not have to be a final version but a work-in-progress. We will do W.I.P. CRIT. 

Please note: Friday, is working class studio and students should be in digital development mode at this time.
Final CRIT/Presentation with client is Wednesday, 09/18.
